• Why use Banana Plugs?

  Banana plugs have many benefits. You get a permanent and high quality connection with banana plugs, as well as a cleaner installation. A bare speaker wire connection is often unreliable. Sound quality can be affected by frayed or pulled out wiring over time. Banana plugs prevent this. Using wall plates (not just leaving a hole in the wall) is another way to do behind the wall installations. Generally, these wall plates have a banana plug jack. Using banana plugs will also make the back of your speakers and receiver look nicer and reduce all the wire clutter.

• What sizes do Banana Plugs come in?

  Most industry applications use a standard banana plug size (4mm) for electrical testing. Two banana plug sizes are commonly available, standard (4mm) and miniature (2mm). Generally, all standard banana plugs and banana sockets and rings are compatible. The mini banana plug is a smaller version of the standard banana plug. Mini Plugs can be as small as 2mm or as large as 3mm so always check product datasheets for accuracy and reference. 

• What are Banana Plugs used for?

  Banana Plugs, sometimes called 4 mm connectors, are a single-wire electrical connector used for joining wires to equipment. However, not all banana plugs will connect with 4 mm parts. Banana plugs are cylindrical plugs that bulge outward and have sprung metal “leaves”. Other variations exist depending on the application. Spring-loaded pins provide good connectivity and that pin does not fall out of a socket. Oftentimes, the pin diameter is 4 mm (which is why the plug is also called a 4 mm plug).
