There are significant differences between DisplayPort and HDMI from a technical perspective. As an AV interface on HDTVs, HDMI has been the standard for over a decade. HDTVs and other consumer electronics gear can be connected to some PCs and monitors via HDMI. Continuing the trend of higher performance displays for personal computers, DisplayPort uses updated signal and protocol technology similar to the one already used in today’s computers. It enables higher performance and greater integration. Through a common connector, DisplayPort can be combined with USB and Thunderbolt standards since it uses common signaling technology in use for data communications and a packetized data structure. With link training/link quality monitoring, DisplayPort provides a robust and stable AV link.
