April 08, 2026 Case Study: A Reference-Grade Cinema Built on Standards, Precision and Kordz Infrastructure

This case study examines a reference-grade home cinema designed and installed by AV Daksma in collaboration with i arkitektura. Built to CEDIA immersive audio standards, the 13.5.10 theatre combines advanced acoustic engineering, precision system design and a complete Kordz cabling infrastructure to deliver exceptional audio-visual performance, signal integrity and long-term reliability.

Introduction

Detached from the main residence, a newly constructed entertainment complex provided AV Daksma and architect firm i arkitektura with a rare opportunity to design a purpose-built, reference-grade home cinema from the ground up. The client’s vision was ambitious: create a theatre that would meet international performance standards while delivering an uncompromising immersive experience.

Through rigorous engineering, disciplined planning, and the use of world-class AV components unified by a comprehensive Kordz cabling infrastructure, the project evolved into a dual-purpose 13.5.10 theatre designed in accordance with the CEDIA/CTA-RP22 Immersive Audio Design Recommended Practice.

The Project: A Purpose-Built Theatre Designed for Performance

While the broader entertainment complex includes social and recreational spaces, the cinema itself was reconstructed as a fully isolated acoustic environment measuring 6.5 by 8.3 metres. Concrete partition walls separate the theatre from the surrounding structure, creating a quiet and controlled space optimised for reference-level audio and video performance.

A dedicated equipment room houses the processors, amplifiers, projector and power conditioning systems, removing heat and mechanical noise from the theatre itself and dramatically lowering the room’s noise floor.

The project unfolded through a collaborative process between AV Daksma, the architect, and the homeowner – an experienced AV enthusiast who has owned multiple theatre systems previously. Rather than upgrading equipment within an existing room, the team began with a clean slate, refining the room architecture, system topology and acoustic strategy before installation began.

“This pinnacle project is a testament to what can be achieved when everyone commits to a shared vision and pushes technological boundaries through thoughtful product selection and engineering-driven design”

– Luis Priego, AV Daksma owner

Challenges: Reconciling Architecture, Acoustics and Immersive Audio Standards

The client envisioned a visually refined theatre that incorporated premium architectural materials such as natural stone, marble and wood. While visually stunning, these materials are inherently reflective and present significant acoustic challenges when designing a reference-level listening environment.

To maintain architectural continuity while achieving the necessary acoustic control, AV Daksma and i arkitektura implemented hybrid absorber-diffuser panels throughout the space. Loudspeakers were carefully positioned between treatments to maintain symmetry, optimal dispersion and tonal balance.

Another challenge stemmed from the system’s extraordinary sensitivity. The immersive audio configuration includes 20 surround and overhead speakers alongside extremely efficient front channels. Combined with the room’s exceptionally low noise floor – achieved through underground construction, concrete isolation and the absence of in-room mechanical systems – even the smallest electrical noise or interference would become immediately audible.

Ensuring perfect signal integrity throughout the system, therefore, became a critical priority.

Solution: Precision Infrastructure Built on Kordz Connectivity

From the outset, AV Daksma designed the system as a dual-purpose environment capable of delivering both immersive cinema and high-end two-channel music reproduction within the same room.

The resulting 13.5.10 speaker configuration features Ascendo Black Swan loudspeakers, four 21-inch subwoofers and a massive 32-inch infrasonic subwoofer, all precisely aligned through Trinnov processing.

Supporting this performance required infrastructure capable of maintaining perfect signal consistency. Each Black Swan speaker module is amplified independently, requiring two discrete cable runs per channel. Even minor variations in conductor resistance or shielding could introduce phase shifts or timing discrepancies.

To match electrical characteristics across every run, AV Daksma specified 12-gauge Kordz speaker cable with Kordz banana terminations for secure, low-resistance connections

Balanced audio interconnects and XLR connectors from Kordz were deployed between the processor and amplifiers to preserve signal purity and reject electromagnetic interference within the system’s exceptionally quiet environment.

The HDMI signal chain was equally demanding. Six video sources feed a Trinnov processor, with video then passing through a MadVR Envy Extreme processor before reaching a Barco Residential Njord projector. To ensure stable handshakes across multiple devices and distances, AV Daksma deployed Kordz PRO4 48Gbps Active Optical HDMI Cables for projector runs, Bravo 8K Performance HDMI Cables within the rack, and PRO4 Passive HDMI Cables for source components.

Network infrastructure was built using Kordz PRO SlimCat Cat6 Cable, connectors and patch cords. The slim cable profile simplified installation and supported extensive conduit pathways that were intentionally oversized to allow future upgrades and expansions

Results: A New Benchmark for Engineering-Led Home Cinema Design

The completed theatre delivers an immersive experience defined by precision, scale and sonic transparency. Whether the homeowner is enjoying critical two-channel listening or hosting a movie night, the system maintains consistent tonal balance, imaging and dynamic performance.

Beyond its immediate performance, the project represents a new benchmark for AV Daksma’s engineering process. Standards-based design, disciplined infrastructure planning, supervised installation and precision calibration ensured that every component operates at its full potential.

Standardising on Kordz connectivity across HDMI, speaker, balanced audio and network infrastructure minimised potential failure points and ensures long-term reliability. This was particularly important given the theatre’s location outside a major urban centre, where repeat service visits would be time consuming and costly for AV Daksma.

In a system defined by ambition and precision, Kordz cabling is forming the invisible architecture that allows every signal – audio, video and control – to arrive intact, synchronised and uncompromised for the ultimate home theatre experience.
