Wired By MJD Elevates Smart Home Experience with Kordz Cabling in New Award-Winning Showroom

Kordz cabling ensures the smart home demonstrations inside Wired By MJD’s experiential showroom impress and inspire customers; earns the 2024 CEDIA Smart Home Award for Best Showroom/Experience Centre, Asia Pacific Region. 

For over 20 years, Michael and Hailey Daly, owners of Australia-based home automation, electrical and AV integration business Wired By MJD have excelled at relating the benefits of an automated lifestyle to their clients. Their business thrived mainly on word-of-mouth referrals and testimonials of their exceptional craftsmanship, professionalism and customer service.  

However, Michael acknowledges, “Storytelling without physical experiences can only go so far. It was time to elevate our presence, attract more business, and provide a more tangible, relatable representation of our technology offerings.” The best way to do this, he and Hailey felt, was to build a lifelike showroom and experience centre.  

Kordz, a leader in high-performance cabling solutions, played an integral role in the timely execution and flawless functionality of the diverse technologies seamlessly integrated within the many custom-designed homelike vignettes of the new 87-square-meter space. The impactful demonstrations of interoperability and control enabled by Kordz not only impress guests but helped Wired By MJD secure the prestigious 2024 CEDIA Smart Home Award for Best Showroom/Experience Centre, Asia Pacific Region. 

With every tech amenity connected through a meticulously designed and thoughtfully installed network of Kordz cabling, the Wired By MJD showroom and experience centre can provide an authentic glimpse of domestic life in a comfortable, convenient, and enjoyable smart home. “Given the diverse range of solutions, technologies, and integration features we offer, it was crucial to make the most of every space and demonstrate as many real-life scenarios as possible,” Hailey explains. “The high-quality cabling from Kordz provided a robust foundation, ensuring that all smart devices and systems interoperated seamlessly, performed optimally, and transitioned the atmosphere of each space smoothly from one scene to another.”  

The extensive Kordz AV and automation infrastructure, featuring audio, HDMI, control, and SlimCat Cat6A network cabling, supports every smart home discipline in Wired By MJD’s extensive portfolio—security, lighting, shading, climate, Wi-Fi, A/V, and automation—alongside products from top-tier brands such as Elan, KNX, Bowers & Wilkins, McIntosh, Marantz, and more. “We needed to be absolutely certain that once we installed the showroom’s cabling backbone, all systems and devices would function as intended,” Michael says.  

Adds Hailey, “with HDMI technology, in particular, the performance of the connected AV equipment can vary drastically depending on the cable’s design and build quality. So, for ‘Aladdin’s Cave’, our dedicated home theatre, which is the epicentre of the showroom, it was important to provide our guests the most immersive entertainment experience possible. We couldn’t have accomplished this without Kordz’ renowned HDMI cabling, in this case, their exceptionally built PRS4 Series.” This Kordz-enabled HDMI infrastructure also readies the room for future upgrades, like an 8K video projector. In other areas, Kordz cabling will be able to support emerging technologies including Wi-Fi 7, 10Gb networking, HDMI 2.1 features, allowing Wired By MDJ to update the showroom and experience centre easily.  

Kordz cabling extends far beyond the dedicated theatre. To support the multi-faceted, finely orchestrated demonstrations of high-performance AV, tailored automation, human-centric lighting, and other cutting-edge applications, Wired By MJD installed and terminated at least 3 kilometers of Kordz cabling.  

Neither the size of the showroom nor the scope of the automation and control systems hindered the deployment. “As is the case with every project, ease of installation was crucial for getting the showroom and experience centre off the ground and ready to open to the public within our 6-month timeframe,” Michael explains. “The smaller-than-average diameter, smooth, crimp-free jacketing, and installation-friendly patch leads streamlined the prewire phase significantly, allowing us more time to focus on programming and refining our demos,” adds Hailey.  

Kordz cabling played such a vital role in the design and integration of Wired By MJD’s showroom and experience center that the Dalys chose to prominently display the clean, uncluttered connections within an exposed equipment rack. This helps Michael, Hailey and the rest of the Wired By MJD team emphasise to their showroom guests the importance of quality cable to the performance and enjoyment of a modern smart home now and in the future—storytelling at its finest!
